Facebook launches the Discover app to surf the internet for free

Do you remember the Free Basics project from Facebook? Its mission was to make Internet free for users who have never logged on yet. Now Facebook is re-launching its project in the form of a special application called Discover that will allow users to connect to the Internet for free.

The application is currently under testing in Peru and is one of the 55 countries that the Free Basics Project was supporting. Facebook cooperates with telecommunications companies in the countries supported by the project to provide users of the application a free daily data package used to browse the Internet through the application.

You will not need a Facebook account to use the application, nor will Facebook keep your browsing data targeted by ads.

You should know that the application only allows basic use, meaning that you will not be able to browse content that consumes data such as videos, and the packages that companies provide for free differ from one country to another according to the desire of the telecommunications company.

The goal of the application is to keep users connected to the Internet even if they do not have sufficient balance of data. In a sign that it will not be restricted by a certain number of sites that support free browsing, just as Free Basics was doing.

As a result of the non-competitive practices that the project was doing, it was banned in India in 2016, which was the most important and largest country to use, so Facebook now came with a fairer view, as it will provide access to all sites for free within the package available to you.
